dc.description.abstractThis research falls within the area of concentration Society and Development, linking to the line of research Human Formation, Sociocultural Processes and Institutions, and is aligned with the supervisor's research project, entitled "Literature, Society and Women: expressions of writing by female authors". In fact, violence against women has been a recurring theme in contemporary female literature, representing, in narratives, a worrying social reality that, although it is based on underreported numbers, reveals itself in alarming statistics. In light of this, the present study, focusing on contemporary Brazilian female authorship, aimed to analyze the representations of gender violence in the novel The weight of the dead bird (2017), by Aline Bei, examining how moral, physical, psychological, sexual and symbolic aggressions are represented through stylistic and literary resources in the narrative. The research also seeks to investigate the representations of the protagonist's silencing after the chain of violence suffered. Throughout history, women have been denied the right to tell their own stories. Violence has long been absent from fiction, although it is very common in reality. Contemporary literature by female authors is thus revealing the oppressions of centuries of silence. Therefore, this work, which is based on an interdisciplinary perspective, proposes a dialogue between historical and historiographical studies (Perrot, 2005, 2017, 2019; Lerner, 2019) and sociological studies (Saffioti, 2015; Bourdieu, 2002) regarding the condition of women in patriarchal society and the violence inflicted on these bodies in order to render them invisible and silence them. In order to contribute to this analysis, which is guided by a qualitative and interpretative methodological apparatus, assumptions from Cultural Studies and Feminist Literary Criticism will also be considered (Figueiredo, 2020; Bonnici, 2007; Zolin, 2019a, 2019b; Garcia, 2011; Silva, 2019; Bandeira, 2019; Showalter, 1994, 2009; Cevasco, 2003, 2009). The results of the analysis point to an understanding of how literary fiction – as a refraction of society, in the terms of Antonio Candido (2023) – highlights and denounces the violence suffered by the protagonist of the novel and, beyond her, the violence suffered by many women outside of fiction, thus exercising the power to question and alter historically consolidated social injustices.
dc.description.resumoEsta pesquisa insere-se na área de concentração Sociedade e Desenvolvimento, vinculando-se à linha de pesquisa Formação Humana, Processos Socioculturais e Instituições, e apresenta aderência ao projeto de pesquisa da orientadora, intitulado “Literatura, Sociedade e Mulher: expressões da escrita de autoria feminina”. Com efeito, a violência contra as mulheres tem sido um tema recorrente na literatura feminina contemporânea, representando, nas narrativas, uma preocupante realidade social que, embora parta de números subnotificados, revelam-se em estatísticas alarmantes. À vista disso, o presente estudo, com foco na autoria feminina brasileira contemporânea, teve por objetivo analisar as representações da violência de gênero no romance O peso do pássaro morto (2017), de Aline Bei, examinando como as agressões moral, física, psicológica, sexual e simbólica são retratadas por meio dos recursos estilísticos e literários na narrativa. A pesquisa busca, ainda, investigar as representações do silenciamento da protagonista após o encadeamento de violências sofridas. Ao longo do tempo, às mulheres foi negado o direito de contar a própria história. As violências, por muito tempo, estiveram ausentes da ficção, embora muito recorrentes na realidade. A literatura de autoria feminina contemporânea vem, então, descortinar as opressões de séculos de silêncio. Diante disso, este trabalho, que se funda numa perspectiva interdisciplinar, propõe um diálogo entre estudos históricos e historiográficos (Perrot, 2005, 2017, 2019; Lerner, 2019) e sociológicos (Saffioti, 2015; Bourdieu, 2002) acerca da condição das mulheres na sociedade patriarcal e da violência imputada a esses corpos de forma a invisibilizá-los e silenciá-los. Com a finalidade de contribuir para esta análise, que se orienta por um aparato metodológico qualitativo e interpretativo, serão também considerados pressupostos dos Estudos Culturais e da Crítica Literária Feminista (Figueiredo, 2020; Bonnici, 2007; Zolin, 2019a, 2019b; Garcia, 2011; Silva, 2019; Bandeira, 2019; Showalter, 1994, 2009; Cevasco, 2003, 2009). Os resultados da análise apontam para a compreensão de como a ficção literária – como refração da sociedade, nos termos de Antonio Candido (2023) – evidencia e denuncia as violências sofridas pela protagonista do romance e, para além dela, as violências padecidas por muitas mulheres fora da ficção, exercendo, assim, o poder de questionar e alterar injustiças sociais historicamente consolidadas.
