dc.description.abstractA influência da mulher na história nem sempre é reconhecida, especialmente, quando se trata do período medieval. Portanto, no intuito de avançar no conhecimento sobre este tema, elegeu-se a rainha Leonor de Aquitânia (1124-1204), como objeto para esta pesquisa, devido à sua importância no século XII. No que se refere à questão que motivou este trabalho delimitamos a seguinte: “Quais ensinamentos são passíveis de se extrair da biografia de Leonor de Aquitânia e das cartas analisadas, no que tange às suas contribuições para a sociedade, buscando a manutenção de seu poder e sua influência, no contexto histórico do século XII? O objetivo desta investigação consiste em analisar os ensinamentos de Leonor de Aquitânia, no que se refere à sua participação no cenário político, religioso e cultural do século XII, considerando sua biografia e as cartas escritas por ela e para ela. Esta pesquisa se caracteriza como qualitativa e exploratória, baseada na pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, a partir das quais foi traçada uma linha histórica da vida de Leonor de Aquitânia, utilizando como referências os estudos empreendidos por Turner (2009,2010), Vincent (2020) e Ferrante (2014?), que compartilharam seus conhecimentos e pesquisas sobre Leonor de Aquitânia, e ainda as 40 cartas que foram publicadas no site Medieval Women’s Latin letters, da Universidade de Columbia. Outrossim, outras importantes fontes fundamentaram esta tese. Esta investigação está amparada no conceito de longa duração, tendo em vista que a memória histórica, a liderança e as virtudes são necessárias na sociedade de qualquer período. Nesse sentido, autores como Le Goff (2007) e Braudel (1958), que tratam sobre a compreensão histórica na perspectiva da História Social, são norteadores deste trabalho. Estudar o período medieval do século XII, a partir da vida de Leonor de Aquitânia e suas relações políticas, religiosas e culturais propiciou-nos entender que embora a sociedade fosse patriarcal, Leonor de Aquitânia, mulher nobre e com exímia educação, participou da política e influenciou decisões significativas durante os seus reinados. Ela foi rainha da Inglaterra e da França; promoveu a expansão da cultura e das artes por intermédio de seu mecenato; participou na Segunda Cruzada, levando outras mulheres consigo; além de escrever cartas endereçadas ao Papa, deixando explícita por meio delas a sua influência, também no setor religioso. Na escrita, ela articula as palavras e mostra o seu poder para pedir a interferência do Papa na libertação do seu filho. Em uma das cartas, endereçadas a ela, o rei Ricardo I, seu filho, agradece os seus ensinamentos, demonstrando sua admiração por Leonor, que cuidou de seu reinado em sua ausência. Seu filho João também escreveu à mãe, revelando seu respeito e admiração por ela, e pedindo que ela cuidasse da região de Aquitânia. Infere-se que a educação que Leonor de Aquitânia recebeu do pai e do avô perdurou por várias gerações futuras e os documentos investigados nos permitiram destacar que ela foi uma Rainha que influenciou, significativamente, na educação social, religiosa, cultural e política, do século XII, deixando registrada uma memória significativa ao longo da história.
dc.description.resumoThe influence of women in history is not always recognized, especially, when it comes to the medieval period. Therefore, in order to advance in the knowledge on this topic, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine (1124-1204) was chosen as the object for this research, due to her importance in the 12th century. Regarding the question that motivated this work, we delimited the following: “What lessons can be extracted from Leonor de Aquitânia’s biography of and the letters analyzed, with regard to her contributions to society, seeking to maintain her power and her influence, in the historical context of the 12th century? The objective of this investigation is to analyze the Eleanor of Aquitânia’s teachings, with regard to her participation in the political, religious and cultural scene of the 12th century, considering her biography and the letters written by her and for her. This research is characterized as qualitative and exploratory, based on bibliographical and documentary research, from which a historical line on Leonor de Aquitânia's life was drawn, using as references the studies undertaken by Turner (2009,2010), Vincent (2020) and Ferrante (2014?), who shared their knowledge and researches on Eleanor of Aquitânia, and also the 40 letters that were published on the Medieval Women's Latin letters website, at Columbia University. Furthermore, other important sources supported this thesis. This investigation is supported by the concept of long duration, considering that historical memory, leadership and virtues are necessary in society in any period. In this sense, authors such as Le Goff (2007) and Braudel (1958), who deal with historical understanding from the perspective of Social History, guide this work. Studying the medieval period of the 12th century, based on Eleanor of Aquitaine’s life and her political, religious and cultural relationships, allowed us to understand that although society was patriarchal, Eleanor of Aquitaine, a noble woman with excellent education, participated in politics and influenced significant decisions during her reigns. She was queen of England and France; she promoted the expansion of culture and arts through her patronage; she participated in the Second Crusade, taking other women with her; in addition to writing letters addressed to the Pope, making her influence explicit through them, also in the religious sector. In writing, she articulated the words and showed her power to ask the Pope to interfere in her son's release. In one of the letters, addressed to her, King Richard I, her son, thanks her for her teachings, demonstrating his admiration for Leonor, who took care of his reign in his absence. Her son João also wrote to his mother, revealing his respect and admiration for her, and asking her to take care of the Aquitaine region. It is inferred that the education that Leonor de Aquitânia received from her father and grandfather lasted for several future generations and the documents investigated allowed us to highlight that she was a Queen who significantly influenced the social, religious, cultural and political education of the century XII, leaving a significant memory recorded throughout history.
