Abstract (English)
In this dissertation, we set out to understand the paths taken and the challenges faced by eight teachers working in Curitiba (PR) in the process of becoming teachers of Brazilian popular singing(s). With a qualitative and exploratory approach, the research used semi-structured interviews as an instrument for constructing information, and the participants were selected through the snowball sampling technique. Reflexive Thematic Analysis (RTA) was chosen as the method for analyzing the information produced in the study, fostering a dialogue between authors in the Social and Human Sciences aligned with a historical-cultural perspective and scholars dedicated to researching Vocal Pedagogy in Brazil. The first chapter discusses how the participants’ personal, artistic, and academic experiences contributed to the construction of the values, principles, and worldviews that guide, motivate, and sustain their trajectories as teachers. The second chapter is divided into two movements and addresses: (I) the weaving of relationships, reflections, and challenges encountered, and (II) the knowledge and teaching tendencies within the field of Vocal Pedagogy. The third chapter presents fragments of how the participating teachers have built—and continue to build—their ways of thinking and teaching based on singular trajectories, mobilizing diverse forms of knowledge, especially experiential knowledge. It proposes understanding their modes of doing as gestures of authorship. Finally, in our concluding remarks, we argue for the need for more research dedicated to listening to, recognizing, sharing, disseminating, and legitimizing the experiential knowledge of teachers of Brazilian popular singing(s) working in different cities, states, and regions of the country, situating them within their historical, political, and cultural contexts. We also point to other intersections we encountered, which may serve as possibilities for future research.
